Day 148 : Nutella Iced Coffee

Ok, so I know it’s starting to look like I have a nutella addiction…. and maybe I do, but I came up with this the other night and just had to share it with you all!  Although I enjoy making blended frappes at home with my nifty machine I have been craving just iced coffees lately and have been experimenting with new versions of that.  This is simply YUMMY!  Creamy, chocolatey, nutty, and satisfies both my need for dessert and coffee all at once!

I don’t measure when making my coffees, so below are just estimates.  Feel free to add more or less to your taste.

Nutella Iced Coffee

Serves : 1              Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee (I use hazelnut espresso beans)
  • 2 T. nutella
  • 1 T. chocolate syrup
  • ice
  • 2 T. fat free half and half
  • milk (top off)

Directions :

  1. Brew your coffee, then with that combine the nutella, chocolate syrup, and 2-3 ice cubes (helps it to blend) in a blender on high until well mixed.
  2. Fill a tall glass about half full with ice then pour the coffee mixture over top.
  3. Add the half and half and fill the rest of the way with milk.
  4. Stir.

Day 134 : Nutella Shots

Ok, I know I did an alcohol drink yesterday for my blog, but as I was browsing recipes for this week’s meals I came across this one and just HAD to try it!  Nutella is one of the best things ever, and best of all I already had the liqueurs on hand!  Well sort of…. it actually calls for godiva chocolate liqueur, but I substituted godiva mocha liqueur and added a bit of chocolate syrup.  It is SO good, and would be great as a full drink instead of shots as well.  I really like the look (and taste!) of the nutella rim too.   This is the drink I would order for me and my girlfriends for ladies night so we could do lots of shots before we really felt the effects lol.  It’s not strong, but it’s also one that you gotta be careful with because you will want to keep drinking them and they will probably sneak up on you.

Beyond the above mentioned change I also used fat free half and half instead of the heavy cream called for in the recipe just to save a few calories.  I imagine it would be even better with the cream though.  I got about 8 shot glasses (1.4 oz. each) out of this.

Nutella Shots

Serves : 8 shots            Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 3 oz. frangelico liqueur
  • 3 oz. godiva mocha liqueur
  • 1 oz. chocolate syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz. fat free half and half
  • ice
  • nutella

Directions :

  1. In a shaker filled with ice combine frangelico, godiva mocha, and half and half.  Shake 15-20 seconds until well mixed and chilled.
  2. Rim shot glasses with nutella, then strain drink into them.

Day 109 : Toasted Coconut Iced Mocha

Just a quick one tonight.  Needed a little pick me up after a rough day.  Baby has been sick for two days now, had a bunch of stuff to get done, and to top off my bad day Jack in the Box forgot to give me my salad which I didn’t realize until I got home.

This is just something I threw together and I think it turned out well. Now to get back to my poor sick baby.

Toasted Coconut Iced Mocha

Serves : 1                Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 2 T. marshmallow creme
  • 2 oz. coconut syrup
  • 2 T. chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • whip cream
  • toasted coconut

Directions :

  1. Blend ice cream, marshmallow creme, coconut syrup, chocolate syrup, milk and coffee together.
  2. Top with whip cream and toasted coconut.

Day 87 : Iced Cinnamon Mocha

Another hectic day so this is going to be brief.  Had pizza for dinner since Jeff was home late and decided a nice iced mocha would be a good after dinner treat, and there’s something very relaxing about the combination of cinnamon and chocolate.  I had just gotten some chocolate marshmallow ice cream from Schwan’s so just used that, but you can use whatever chocolate ice cream you have on hand.  I went a bit light on the sugar in this since I didn’t want an overly sweet drink and found it to be just right for me, but you can adjust to your tastes.

Iced Cinnamon Mocha

Serves : 1                 Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 1/2 cup chocolate ice cream
  • 1 packet splenda
  • 1 1/2 T. cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup fat free half and half
  • whip cream

Directions :

  1. Mix in blender until smooth and top w/ the whip cream and another sprinkle of  cinnamon.

Day 81 : Tiramisu Frappe

Somehow I managed to mess up my back yesterday.  Since the moment I got out of bed this morning I have been pretty much unable to move without pain, and after a day of having to chase after my kids anyway because they don’t care about my excuses, I was not up for standing around the kitchen all night to make dinner.  We had pizza instead, but in the spirit of not missing a day of my blog I decided to make a frappe.  It has been a while since I have tried one of the recipes that came with the frappe machine, and since I am in pain I decided to go all out and do the adult version.

Normally I make my frappes with ice cream or frozen yogurt, instead of ice to get a creamy texture, but the heavy cream does just as well.  Of course it’s far from figure friendly, and when using frozen yogurt I can go with fat free…. but after a day like today I don’t really care lol.  I have to say, this was SOOOOOO good, and really did taste like tiramisu!

Just for some fun, I made a very quick chocolate decoration to put on top, but since I was in a bit of a hurry and not moving all that well I didn’t get it all off the paper in one piece.  There should have been more steam lines coming from the middle.  As you can see I also slightly melted the edge of the handle…. but you get the idea lol.  My son told me it was amazing anyway!

Tiramisu Frappe

Serves : 1        Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 2 cups ice
  • 2 T. chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup rum

Directions :

  1. Put ice in blender and pour in other ingredients over top.
  2. Blend on high until well combined and frothy.
  3. Top with whip cream if you desire and a sprinkling of cinnamon.

Day 59 : Adult Iced Hazelnut Mocha

So a full week now of sickness in our house, and still lingering.  Seems today it was my youngest again that suffered the most….poor little guy.  When he’s upset it makes EVERYONE’S day hard though.  I figured it was a good night for a little treat before bedtime.  Typically, an iced hazelnut mocha is my go-to beverage when I want a little pick me up or dessert drink.  I figured why not take it a step further and have an even bigger treat that might help me relax a bit or sleep deeper tonight.  I had the three liquors up in the pantry cabinet, so I decided to wing it!

I think it turned out pretty good!  Although the name implies that it is a mocha, it doesn’t have a very strong coffee flavor to it.  Kahlua, though made with coffee, doesn’t have a whole lot in it.  I might have added more to this drink, but Jeff has a major aversion to coffee so I figured that since I was mixing it all together it was easier to leave it be.  Next time though I might take that extra step and add a bit more kahlua to my own, or even some fresh brewed coffee.  As always measurements are more like guidelines and you can always adjust them to your tastes if you prefer one liquor over the other.

I have to admit that when Jeff brought home the Chocolate Tequila Rose I was not a big fan.  However, mixed into drinks it is actually not so bad and I can see all sorts of uses for it in the future from drinks to desserts!

Adult Iced Hazelnut Mocha

Serves : 2             Time to make  : 3 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 2oz Chocolate Tequila Rose
  • 2oz Frangelico
  • 2oz Kahlua
  • 3oz half and half cream
  • 4oz milk
  • ice
  • whip cream
  • chocolate syrup for garnish

Directions :

  1. Mix alcohols, cream, and milk together in a small pitcher and stir to combine.
  2. To garnish glass, hold it in one hand at an angle and slowly pour the chocolate syrup onto the inside of the glass spinning it as you go.
  3. Put ice in each glass, and pour drink over ice.
  4. Top with whip cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Day 44 : Raspberry Mocha Frappe

Happy Valentines Day!  I hope everyone had a great day w/ their loved ones.  I had THREE Valentines this year and boy did they spoil me!  I got a diamond Open Hearts Collection necklace, a dozen roses in a lovely arrangement, and a gourmet truffle is on it’s way from Sterling Confections.  As if that weren’t already more than enough I didn’t have to make dinner tonight, and instead we ordered pizza!  I did make dessert, but it didn’t look nearly as good as it tasted so I will not use it for today’s recipe…..it basically exploded open in the oven lol.

Anyway, I spent two years as a Barista, and as a result became VERY picky when it comes to coffee.  I now make many of my drinks at home, and this is my own little recipe.  Two Christmases ago I was gifted the Mr. Coffee Frappe machine and I cannot get over how awesome it is!  It’s not really good for someone who drinks lattes, but if you’re like me and prefer iced coffees this is the machine for you.

This recipe is really more of a method in many ways since I don’t typically measure anything for it.  I will try to give you estimates, but they are definitely just that, and you can add more or less to your own tastes.  I also like to strain my raspberries through a fine sieve if I have the time because I am not a fan of the seeds, but I didn’t tonight.  If you want to do that it is easiest if you add the milk to the raspberries and blend them then put them through the sieve.  Also feel free to use whatever type of ice cream you like.  I have done chocolate, the french silk, coffee, and even vanilla… all with great results.

Raspberry Mocha Frappe

Serves : 1                     Time to make : 5 minutes

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee (I like to use hazelnut coffee beans)
  • 1//2 cup ice cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1-2 T. heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup raspberries, mashed and mixed with 1 package of splenda
  • 2-4 T. chocolate syrup (depends on how chocolatey you like it!)
  • whip cream

Directions :

  1. Combine everything except whip cream in a blender and mix until smooth.
  2. Top with the whip cream.
